Overview

3 commands documented

Wifite drives the aircrack-ng/hcxdumptool stack in a fixed sequence so a bench test of your own network does not require remembering every flag. That convenience is exactly why it must stay inside a lab: it makes aggressive steps easy.

Use it against your own access point only, and read the underlying tool documentation before you rely on a result. WPA3/PMF-protected networks are expected to resist these flows; that is the point of enabling them.

Installation

Grouped by platform. Elevation requirements are marked per method.

Clone and install

Alternativesource

Needs elevated privileges (sudo / Administrator).

git clone https://github.com/kimocoder/wifite2
cd wifite2 && sudo ./install.py
  • Install pulls in the aircrack-ng/hcxtool dependencies, which is where most failures actually originate.

Package availability follows your distribution and enabled repositories. Entry revised 11 Dec 2025 — confirm the current release on the project's own download page.

Commands

3 entries

Every command carries its purpose, an example where useful, and the limitations that change how you should read the output.

01Scan without attacking

bash

Lists nearby networks with encryption and client counts — the pass you can justify anywhere.

sudo wifite --scan --delay 10

02Run one flow against your own AP

bash

Targets a single BSSID with a chosen attack and a bounded time.

sudo wifite --bssid AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF --attack pmkid --timeout 300
  • Only your own network. Deauthentication flows disturb everyone in range, including neighbours.

03Supply your own candidate list

bash

Points the key test at a list you built for the audit — never at an internet wordlist of unknown provenance.

sudo wifite --dict ./lab-passphrases.txt --noscan --bssid AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF

Common errors

Symptoms you will actually hit, with the cause and the legitimate fix.

Monitor mode fails or the adapter is not usableCause 1/2

Possible causes

  • Chipset/driver limitation — the same constraint as raw aircrack-ng.

Usual fix

Check `iw list` output for monitor support, and use a documented compatible adapter.

Run ends with 'no handshake captured'Cause 2/2

Possible causes

  • No client activity in the window; PMF enabled; or channel lock lost.

Usual fix

Do the capture yourself with airodump-ng on a locked channel and skip the automation for that step.

Tips

  • Log which attack it used and what the outcome was; 'no result' plus WPA3 is a positive finding about your configuration.
  • Keep captures for a day at most and delete them; they contain other people's frames.
